Moulages
The exhibition contains three-dimensional wax replicas of diseased body parts. The special technique of wax moulage production provides fascinating and authentic results in original size. The collection is now used again as a teaching collection for students of the medical school. Information beyond the medical theory which explain the background and history are given next to the moulages in the glass cabinets.
Beside
the dermatologic wax models which make up the main part of the
exhibition, the museum shows also very rare surgical models. All of
them are accompanied by short texts explainng the diseases for
medical laymen.
The
permanent exhibition shows all the major diseases of the skin. In
addition, historically significant and rare diseases can be seen.
The Zurich moulages are also shown as loans in foreign exhibitions or in small exhibitions in other museums, or at conventions. Only about one third of the total amount of over 1,800 moulages can be exhibited in the museum. Changing special exhibitions allow us to form the exhibition dynamic and show the versatility of moulages.
